St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish News
June 19, 2020
Dear St. Mary Star of the Sea Parishioners-
THIS SUNDAY WE ENTER “ORDINARY” TIME:
Ordinary Time is comprised of the days between the great seasons of Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter. “Ordinary” might give the impression that nothing special takes place during these days of the liturgical year. That would be incorrect. Ordinary Time is filled with rich passages of Scripture and in its Gospel passages we are with the Lord and his first disciples as he conducts his earthly ministry. There is much waiting for us in “Ordinary Time”.
A NEW RECTOR/PASTOR & ASSOCIATE PASTOR ARE ASSIGNED TO US:
We wish Fr. Paul Strommer well as he becomes pastor of the parishes in Chisholm and Buhl on July 15th. Fr. Paul has done good work in our parishes during the past year and is ready to pastor his own parishes now. Please join me in thanking him for his ministry here.
The diocese has named Fr. Tony Wroblewski the new Rector of the Cathedral and Pastor of St. Mary Star of the Sea. Fr. Tony has been pastor of the parishes in Brainerd for the last 13 years and has a wealth of experience in parish ministry, administration, and catholic schools. I am delighted that he will be your new pastor beginning July 15th.
Fr. Tony will be assisted by soon to be ordained (Fr.) Matthew Miller. Fr. Miller completed his seminary studies in Rome this spring and will be ordained a priest for our diocese on June 26th. He and Fr. Tony will make a good team.
MY EPISCOPAL COAT OF ARMS:
Every bishop has a Coat of Arms designed when he is named and it is “impaled” on a cross with the Coat of Arms of the diocese he leads. The left side of my Coat of Arms features the Coat of Arms of the Diocese of Rapid City. You can see 3 black spikes that represent the Black Hills with shamrocks on their tops representing the 1st Cathedral of the diocese there, St. Patrick’s in Lead. The gold background symbolizes the gold mined in the Black Hills and the wavy white line represents the Missouri River which forms the Eastern border of the diocese. The green section represents the grasslands of the prairie and the yellow circle is the sacred circle of the Lakota people.
I designed the right side of the Coat of Arms with the top blue section with the star representing Our Lady who is the patroness of both the Diocese of Duluth (Our Lady of the Rosary) and the Diocese of Rapid City (Our Lady of Perpetual Help) and Our Lady of Fatima (my birthday: May 13th ). The red keys represent my name “Peter”. The lower blue section with the yellow cross is the Coat of Arms of the Diocese of Duluth and the miner’s lantern represents the Iron Range where I grew up.
My motto is “Exemplum Dedi Vobis” which is the first part of Jn 13:15 from the foot washing: “I have given you an example”.

FATHER'S DAY SUNDAY JUNE 21
Blessing of Fathers
God and Father of all creation, we come before you today with humble hearts. You are our model of a loving father. When we fail and fall short of your expectations, you are always there at the end of the day with open arms, ready to heal the cuts and scrapes of the day
and to encourage us to try again and not to give up.
We hold up these men in our midst who act in the world as fathers to their children or models of fathers for others.
Bless them in their moments of doubt and frustration with their children. Give them warm and open hearts to forgive failures. Provide them with the words needed for encouragement and perseverance.
We ask all this in the name of Jesus.

Thank you for your continued financial support of our parish. Your contributions have enabled us to continue the important work and mission of St. Mary Star of the Sea!
As the option for public Masses resumes, you will now have the opportunity to make your contribution when you attend a weekend Mass. Instead, we will place a collection basket at the main entrance of the church where donations can be placed before or after Mass.
Contributions can also be mailed or dropped off at the parish office at 325 E. 3rd Street Duluth, MN 55805 or made through our online giving platform at
