A MESSAGE FROM
FR. SETH GOGOLIN FOR PENTECOST SUNDAY
This coming week is one that has three awe-inspiring liturgies at the Mother Church of the Diocese, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary. Beginning on Sunday afternoon at 2pm we have a Mass where we celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation for 38 young people. These are young people from the six parishes in our mission field on the east side of Duluth. Bishop Daniel will preside at this powerful Mass where we celebrate the reality of Pentecost taking place today; the Holy Spirit descending on these young people so that they may have the power of the Holy Spirit to go out and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ! Come join us at this Mass to celebrate these young people saying yes to the call from Jesus to go out and proclaim His name to those who do not yet know Him, and to show support for these young people as fellow members of the Body of Christ!
The next day, on Monday June 9th we have the opportunity to be a part of something historic that sometimes doesn’t even happen once in a lifetime. At 5:30pm at the Cathedral we will have a Mass for the entombment of Monsignor Joseph Buh, the Patriarch of the Diocese of Duluth. Weather permitting, we will start this Mass across the street at the Diocesan Pastoral Center. From there we will process to the Cathedral with the remains of Msgr. Buh where the remains will be placed in a vault in front of the statue of St. Joseph. An invitation from Bishop Daniel on social media and from the pulpits across the diocese has gone out for all the faithful of the diocese to join us for this special Mass. This may be the one chance you get to ever experience this type of moment in the life of the Church, so please consider attending. It will truly be a historic occasion!
Lastly, on Friday, June 13th we will have a Mass of great joy when we celebrate the Mass of Priestly Ordination for Deacon Phil Mayer, and Deacon Jacob Tschida. These two men will be ordained priests for our diocese at the Cathedral by Bishop Daniel at 4pm. If you have never been to a priestly ordination, please consider attending. The soon to be Fr Jacob Tschida will be assigned to the six parishes in our mission field, so it is an opportunity for you to welcome him to our parishes! The soon to be Fr Phil Mayer will be assigned to the parishes in Cross Lake, Emily, Pine River, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes, and Pine River to join the priest team there of Fr Tony Wroblewski and Fr Timothy Lange. Ordinations are one of the most beautiful of the liturgies that the Church celebrates, so I hope we have a completely full Cathedral to give thanks to God for these men who are giving their lives to us as priests, and to give thanks to the Lord for His goodness and love for us that He continues to raise up for us shepherds to guide us.

CALLED TO SERVICE IN OUR MISSION FIELD
Pope Leo XIV calls us to the mission of serving others; “may every Baptized Christian feel called to be a sign of hope in our world”. The Church's concern for the poor is reflected in our Catechism; “The Eucharist commits us to the poor. To receive in truth the Body and Blood of Christ given up for us, we must recognize Christ in the poorest, his brethren” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1397). Bishop Felton has asked us to bring the healing, hope, and joy that can only be found in Jesus to our Mission Field. We have many organizations and individuals in our parishes seeking volunteers to help serve people in need in our East Duluth Mission Field.
Here are the opportunities to be Christ for others. Please pray for inspiration of where you may be called to serve.

CHUM Food Shelf: Donations of non-perishable foods are needed for the CHUM food shelf. Whole grain cereals, pastas, peanut butter and canned goods are the items most needed. Please drop off your donations in the food baskets at the entrances of the Cathedral, St. Michael, St. Benedict and St. John's churches.
St. Vincent de Paul Society: The Society of St. Vincent de Paul visits our neighbors in need providing assistance in the form of prayer and paying some basic necessities for rent, utilities, auto repairs, etc.. Please attend our meetings on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at 5;15pm in the Social hall at St. Mary Star of the Sea. For more information email svdpduluthmn@gmail.com
Order of Malta: The Order is at work in our community! We encounter Christ in our lords, the sick and the poor. THINKING ABOUT BECOMING CATHOLIC?
For those interested in exploring the Catholic faith, we'll have 4 informational meetings this summer for OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults). OCIA is the process through which you can receive the necessary Sacraments to become Catholic. EAST DULUTH FAITH FORMATION
The season of Easter concludes with today’s celebration, the feast of Pentecost. On Pentecost we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles gathered in the upper room in Jerusalem. When Jesus appeared to his disciples after his Resurrection, his first words to them were a greeting of peace. He then fulfilled his promise to send to his disciples a helper, an advocate, who would enable them to be his witnesses throughout the world, the Holy Spirit.
Throughout their lives our young people experience a certain amount of brokenness in their lives. By the same token, they have also had experiences of reconciliation when conflicts were resolved, and relationships restored. When conflicts are resolved, and relationships are restored.
Just as Jesus commissioned his disciples to continue the work that he had begun, so too are our Confirmation candidates. They have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit to help them bring Jesus’ message of peace and forgiveness to our broken world.
Pray that they call upon the Holy Spirit as they continue to grow in their faith, and that they may find strength and peace in the mercy of God through the forgiveness of sins.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST JUNE 8
The Knights of Columbus will host their monthly pancake breakfast at St. Michael this Sunday, June 8, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and continuing after the 11:00 a.m. Mass. The cost is $9 per person, with a family maximum of $20. All are welcome to come enjoy good food and fellowship!
HOLY ROSARY SOCIETY MEETING THIS SATURDAY
The Holy Rosary Society will be meeting Saturday, June 7th, at 10:00 am in the Social Hall at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. This is their new meeting time now that there is no Saturday mass. The meeting starts with prayer and then continues with the official meeting. All women are invited to attend, either for prayer or for the full meeting. The meeting should conclude by 11:30 am. SCRIPTURE STUDY SUNDAYS
Sundays at 6 pm Deacon Dick Laumeyer leads a scripture study on the up-and-coming Sunday’s scripture readings. There is also a rosary and prayers for people’s needs. The meeting is outside by the Mary statue at St. Mary Star of the Sea. If weather is not conducive to meeting outside, the study will be held in the Social Hall. All are invited.
POLISH CEMETERY ASSOCIATION MEETING
The Polish Cemetery Association will be having its annual yearly meeting on Tuesday, June 10th at St Mary Star of the Sea Church-325 East 3rd Street. The meeting will be held in the social hall beginning at 2:00 PM. Refreshments will be served following the meeting. ST. MICHAEL OFFICE HOURS UPDATE
The St. Michael's office will be closed through Thursday, June 12. We will be open on Friday, June 13, from 7-3:30 p.m.
BEATITUDES IN ACTION
Laundry Love: Thank you for your donations to support our monthly service event at Spirit Valley Laundry. We serve no/low-income persons by paying for them to do their laundry, while offering compassionate hospitality. On May 20, we had 47 walk-ins (representing 115 total including family members). We funded 99 loads washed and dried for $818.75. We will be collecting donations on Sunday, 6/15, after the 11 am Mass for our June 17th service date. Cash/check donations appreciated ongoing: SMC/Memo line "Laundry Love".
Food Shelf/CHUM: Donations of non-perishable foods appreciated: whole grain cereals, pastas and crackers needed, as well as peanut butter and canned goods. Drop off at St Michael's in the "shopping cart" by the front door.
Damiano: Preparing and serving the Saturday meal on June 14 and July 12. We need 3 volunteers from 1:30-6 pm. Monthly Beatitudes meeting is from 3-4 pm at the Damiano cafeteria during the break between food prep and serving.

St. Mary Star of the Sea Rosary Schedule: The Rosary is prayed Monday through Friday at 11:30 AM and at 8:30 AM Sunday. The Scriptural Rosary is prayed each Wednesday evening at 6 pm though it is on hold during Lent.
Cathedral Rosary Schedule: The Rosary is prayed at 6:35 AM Monday through Friday, 10 AM on Saturday, and 4 PM Saturday. The Knights of Columbus lead the Rosary at 6:30 PM on the first Tuesday of each month during Adoration.
